Cast of Characters

There are A LOT of characters in my stories.

This is a refresher of the main ones by the end of Book Two.

Mild spoilers if you haven’t read the books!

Overview:

Magic is strongest in the Fae, then the Mers, then the Surfecti, who live on the land, such as Witches, Shifters, Mages, etc. The Boss oversees all of this from her office, a massive expanse of screens monitoring everything on the Earth’s surface.

But she does not interfere, as all creatures have free will.

Pacific Mers

Jelly: full name Scyphozoa: Warrior mermaid of the Pacific Mers Clan. Orphaned, raised by the Shaman. She wears a family heirloom, a teardrop black pearl, which houses Leoht, a powerful Fae. She gets visions and premonitions from the pearl, and went to the surface on a mission to rescue Simmi. She underwent a forced fusion ritual, where seven Surfecti men blasted her with their magic, after which Mother Kokuro claimed her, tattooing her back with a turquoise yin yang made of mermaid tails.

Her magic started as glamor and portal whirlpools. After the ritual, she had access to seven strains of Surfecti magic, but couldn't control them until she met the bees and retrieved a missing piece of her soul. She can now shift into Fae form, and her scream is shattering, bolstered by turquoise magic. Turquoise hair, tail, and eyes. Mates with Mako.

Mori: Jelly’s best friend, also a warrior. Fiery redhead, she’s discovered she has recessive Phoenix blood and her tears can bring back the dead. She also has Azkiya’an Maestra Mage magic, making her exceptionally bright, able to draw quick connections. She can move sand and dirt, and in Book Two, shoots flames from her palms. Daughter to Commander Tro of the Pacific Mers, and Oxycirrhites, who died from breast cancer when Mori was a child. Her lovers are Roan and Branko.

Synchi: full name Synchiropus Splendidus: The Shaman of the Pacific Mers. She formed a bubble around the reef after nuclear testing in the Bikini Atoll to protect them from radiation. Now, it also keeps out the plastic trash from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. She is ancient, and when not using glamor, has thick white locs woven with shells, dark skin, white-blue eyes, and a long white chin braid with a shell on the end.

Sophia: Mother to Leif, Mako, and Simmi. She went to the surface on a Procreation Mission and stayed, marrying Sebastian, resulting in the Mers ostracizing her. Her magic is water manipulation. Since she remained on land, she needs a potion to call forward her Mers tail. Good friends with Anna Smith, the witch.

Tro: full name Commander or Lord Pterois: Mori’s father, commander of the Pacific Mers army. He is a massive merman with a scar across his chest from a propeller strike when he was young. Red tail, red hair, hazel eyes. He sits on the Trident.

Trident members: The ruling body of the Pacific Mers, made of representatives of seven families after the Queen died without an heir. They started the Procreation Missions, sending mermaids to the surface to mate with humans to continue their race, as plastics have destroyed their ability to have merchildren. They mistrust the Surfecti, the people on land with magic, as they could not protect the ocean from human destruction.

Fae

Prince Vingor: Wants to enslave humanity to serve his whims. He creates Eators, manipulating humans to do horrible things to the planet through powerful positions on corporate boards and in governments. He had a fling with Gaia, the Earth Goddess, and she shunned him. In retaliation, he’s feeding Fae blood to animals, creating monsters called Razors, hoping to drive Gaia insane.

Prince Sebastian, or Sebastio in Fae realm: Father to Leif, Mako, and Simmi. Married to Sophia. He has a pure heart and despises his two brothers. He is an Empath and has blue magic. Disgusted by his brothers, he left the Fae Kingdom, and Terrun put a silencing curse on him, which Mew lifted.

Prince Terrun: The youngest, and when wearing his glamor, he’s stunningly gorgeous. He wants to exterminate humanity so the Earth can heal, and the Fae can once again live on the surface. He killed Jelly’s father and kidnapped Simmi. Currently trapped in the Arctic Fae Dimension, sent there by Sebastian after a battle in Bermuda.

Mother Kokuro: She’s a powerful Fae who took to the ocean to live when the Fae left the surface. She lives in an oyster, and cared for Leoht. She claimed Jelly, then Mako, then Simmi, giving Mako and Simmi the same marking of a medallion with three stars and a new moon.

Leoht: Former guard to the Queen, she was lovers with Terrun. Her blood amplifies magic, and he and Vingor bled her for that power. Queen demanded her release, and the King hid her in a pearl. The Queen gave the pearl to Mother Kokuro for safe keeping, who gave it to the Mers to help them survive. Leoht “woke up” during the Industrial revolution to protect the Mers from the ships, then again in 1946, when the first underwater nuclear testing occurred. Jelly’s grandmother wore it. She woke up for Jelly to help rescue Simmi by giving her a premonition. She remains awake, and speaks to Jelly in pulses, or through telepathy.

Francesco: A guard in the Hellhole prison who defected, hiding until Mako found him. He helped rescue Fae and became one of Gaia’s guardians. A burly Fae with blue skin, navy hair, and cornflower blue eyes. He used to work with Leoht.

Trix and Xeno, the Rana Twins: They are Amphibi, responsible for keeping Gaia’s emotions steady. Straight blond hair, skin deep yellow, brown eyes, Trix has an arrow tattoo on her right thigh. Vingor kidnapped them to the Hellhole to bleed them, but were rescued by the end of Book Two.

Doocan: Former Hellhole prisoner. He can teleport, camouflage himself, and has eyes like a lizard’s, with a slit down the center. One of Gaia’s guardians.

Fae/Mers

Leif: Eldest son of Sophia and Sebastian: He fell in the Hellhole when he was fifteen, trapped for fifteen years. He can’t change back to his human form, staying as Fae with pointed ears and fangs. He could swim the Hellhole waters thanks to his Mers blood, and he saved many Fae during his captivity.

Mako, middle child: Wears an orca pendant that connects him to his family and the ocean. He thought Leif fell in the hole because of a dare they made as children. Mates with Jelly. Cobalt tail, eyes, and magic. As well as Kokuro’s medallion, he received wave tattoos over his arms and shoulders. Kokuro’s claiming gives him faster access to his Fae form and stronger magic.

Simmi, youngest child: Kidnapped by Terrun to use as a lure. He hoped Leoht would wake up and come after Simmi through Jelly. When Kokuro claimed Simmi, marked her with a chain of colorful seahorses, heightening her empathic powers. She’s a slight woman with long, dark hair. She feels everything. Lovers with Simon, aka, the Drifter, or Drift.

Shifters

Simon, also known as the Drifter, nicknamed Drift: A wolf shifter without a pack. Roams lands where wolves and humans struggle to cohabitate. His magic is maroon, and drifts like smoke. He turns into a large white wolf. Long blond hair, rangy body like an endurance runner. Goatee and light blue eyes. Lovers with Simmi.

Branko: A gargoyle from Eastern Europe. He’s huge, six and a half feet tall. No hair on his body or head. His skin is naturally cool. When he shifts, it’s like dry ice, plus wings with talons on the end, claws, curved horns on his head, and fangs that jut up. Steel eyes. Lovers with Mori once they realized she liked his cold against her hot (Phoenix). Reluctantly shares Mori with Roan because that’s what Mori wants.

Witches

Anna Smith, mother to Gray, married to Richard: She is the Lead Witch of the New Forest Coven in England. Very British, prim, contained, and can teleport. She and Synchi, the Mers Shaman, were once close allies, but they parted ways after the Surfecti failed to stop the nuclear testing in the ocean. However, Jelly brings them back together, and they communicate through a mirror. Anna is Simmi’s godmother.

Mages

Richard Smith, father to Gray, married to Anna: He is a co-chair of the Council of Wizards with Roan. His magic is air manipulation, meaning he can levitate things, and it is the color purple. He’s obnoxiously smart.

Roan: Scottish, rough, loves his whiskey and swears a lot. A broad and massive man, completely covered in magical tattoos. He is a Mind Mage, able to read people’s thoughts if they aren’t guarding. His ink is all black save for red roses on his torso, covering a scar from an Eator attack that killed his mother. Lovers with Mori.

Gray Smith, son of Richard and Anna: He has Persuasion magic, able to seduce people to his will. He’s an environmental lawyer, battling in human courts to protect the planet from corporate disregard. His magic is orange fire, and he is curious about the Dark Arts, forbidden magic. It was his idea to do the forced fusion ritual for Jelly. He is tall, graceful, with sandy colored curls and brown eyes that sparkle gold when he’s using his persuasion.

Animals

Icy: Icy is a Seer, a chubby, scowling white cat who gets visions. She answers to the Egyptian Goddess Bastet, who uprooted her from a very cushy life to live with Anna at the Coven. She takes people to alternate dimensions. She escorted Jelly to meet Bastet for protection in London. She took Mori to the Egyptian deities. Icy helped Roan, Mako, and Jelly travel to the Fae Hellhole to find Leif.

Angelic/Deities

The Boss: She oversees both the humans and the magical creatures, on every square inch of land or sea, as well as having access to the Fae Dimensions.

Bartholomew, nicknamed Mew: He is The Boss’s right hand, a Seraphim, with six wings, many of them gold, showing his ancient knowledge. He’s big and bald and has been Mako’s protector since birth. He runs a dojo in the village where Sebastian’s family lives, teaching people, often girls, how to fight. If he says too much, the Boss punishes him, as it goes against “the rules” of free will. To see Mew’s true form, hold him down for five seconds, normally an impossible task, except for when he was dead in the Hellhole. Everyone besides Anna, Richard, Doocan, and Gray knows what he is.

Gaia, the Earth Goddess: Gorgeous, rather vain, and prone to temper tantrums, lashing out in storms. She is in charge of all of Earth’s creatures, human, animal, and magics.

She’s enlisted guardians to execute her wishes to sway the humans toward protecting the planet, and that’s where Book Three opens, with our crew needing allies to overcome Vingor and Terrun, who plan to ruin the humans.
